Natural Stone

Problem: The previous homeowner had restored the slate floor incorrectly with polyurethane and paint. We were called in to evalute the condition of the floor and to see if it could be restored instead of replaced.

Our Solution: Restore 180 square feet of  badly damaged natural slate tile floor in 3 different areas, to bring it back to it’s former glory, so that it once again could enhance the home’s decor instead of being an eyesore.

Before any work could begin and because we were going to be using harsh chemicals during the restoration process, we protected the base cabinets, appliances and walls. Once protection was complete, we went over the floor with a polyurethane remover.  The remover softened the polyurethane and paint to a point where we could scrub the majority of it off the floor. After scrubbing the floor, we then scaped up the rest that had settled on the grout in between the tiles. After all the old, nasty polyurethane and paint was removed, we rinsed the floor with clean water and let it dry overnight.

On the second day, we colorsealed all the grout to match the slate and allowed that to cure for 24 hours. On the third day, our team went back and sealed all 3 areas with a color enhancing imprenator to bring out and protect the natural beauty of the slate floors.
